The all abilities - train themed playground has been a huge hit for everyone concerned. The local community got behind the local Lions Club and built the playground at Foreshore Reserve, Mt Beauty.
This project was so successful the Lions Club was entered in the Victorian Council of Community Service Clubs Awards 2001.
To quote from their submission … “Lions Club of Upper Kiewa Valley, single project award, Mt Beauty Foreshore Playground.
A PLAYGROUND IN A WEEKEND!
This project is a classic example of the community spirit of small country towns, which so often are denied the facilities available in capital cities or larger regional towns. The Lions Club and Lions Ladies have undertaken this project after many years of dedicated fundraising and with the assistance of the Alpine Shire and Sports & Recreation Victoria.
Fifty volunteers worked all day Saturday and then again cheerfully turned up on Sunday to complete the works by lunchtime. The local children and their families watched the progress with interest and raced to try out the equipment as soon as the safety fences came down. Their opinion – ‘it’s great!’
The Mt Beauty community now has a safe, exciting and stimulating playground for the enjoyment of their children and also for the many visitors to this beautiful area in north-eastern Victoria.”
