Terang Park, Corangamite

Terang Park in the Corangamite Shire is a dream come true for children of all ages. With separate age-based zones, every child is catered to and guaranteed to have the time of their lives. The playground’s rural theme in the junior zone has been particularly popular, with features like the Orbit Dome, Sonic, Tornado and a swing with a toddler seat and strap seat providing excitement and challenges for older children. The colors of green, teal, and yellow with pockets of orange make the playground a visually stimulating and inviting space for children to play and explore.

One of the features of the playground is the softfall mulch installed underneath the play structures. This provides a safe and cushioned landing for children, reducing the risk of injury during play. The rubber pathways that link the different areas of the park also ensure that children can move around the playground safely and comfortably. Additionally, the fence around the playground, made up of a mixture of wood and metal, offers an extra layer of protection, providing parents with peace of mind while their children play.

The first structure in the playground is packed with exciting features that will keep children entertained for hours. The wave slide, rock wall, telescope panel, bridge, and climbing equipment offer a range of physical challenges for children, helping to develop their strength, coordination, and balance. The ‘S monkey bars’ that link the first structure to the twista, web tunnel, and fire pole provide an extra challenge for older children, helping to build their upper body strength and coordination. The steppers at the end of the play structure offer a fun and creative way for children to exit the structure, encouraging them to use their imaginations as they play.

The second structure in the playground is equally impressive, with a match the letter panel, telescope panels, and bubble hole panel providing exciting sensory experiences for children. The shop counter underneath the structure provides a space for children to engage in imaginative play, helping to develop their creativity and social skills. The suspension bridge and plastic stairs offer a range of physical challenges, helping to build children’s strength and coordination. The straight slide at the end of the structure provides a thrilling way for children to exit, encouraging them to take risks and challenge themselves as they play.

The benefits of play are well-documented, with research showing that play is essential for children’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development. Physical play, like climbing, running, and jumping, helps children to develop their gross motor skills and build their strength, coordination, and balance. Social play, like imaginative play, helps children to develop their social skills, such as communication, cooperation, and empathy. Emotional play, like role-playing and pretend play, helps children to develop their emotional intelligence, including their ability to regulate their emotions and understand the emotions of others. Cognitive play, like problem-solving and sensory play, helps children to develop their cognitive skills, such as critical thinking, creativity, and curiosity.

In summary, Terang Park in the Corangamite Shire is a super fun playground that offers a range of physical, social, emotional, and cognitive benefits for children. With its rural theme, softfall mulch, rubber pathways, and fence, the playground is a safe and inviting space for children to play and explore. The play structures themselves offer a range of exciting features that will keep children entertained for hours while helping them to develop their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive skills. Overall, Terang Park is a fantastic space for children to learn, grow, and have fun.

The Tornado is constructed from powder coated galvanised steel and has one ‘bucket’ that can hold up to four children. Catering for the developing needs of all children, SafePlay playgrounds offer a diverse range of active and passive play choices.

Providing a balanced array of activities is paramount when catering for children. Their diverse range of physical abilities demands that equipment be capable of allowing children to extend their skills. The inclusion of passive play zones and areas where adults can interact is also important.

Keeping playgrounds interesting and fun for older children can be a significant challenge. By including a range of play activities with graduated levels of physical challenge as well as spaces for socialising or just hanging out, older children have the increased incentive for play and social interaction.
