The fun & friendly playground professionals

For over 30 years, our Australian family-owned business has been trusted by schools, councils, and communities across Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania, to deliver exciting, safe and inclusive play environments.

Our approachable and experienced team has the kind of industry knowledge that only comes from decades of delivering exceptional projects.

From our home base in Ringwood, Victoria, our Playground Professionals bring specialist industry experience and in-house design capability. That means we understand compliance, safety, constructibility and the responsibility of getting it right.

End-to-end Partnerships

Whether you’re a school, a council, a landscape architect or you represent a community, we work with you from first concept through to handover, and we stay on hand well after that. We back every project with full specification and technical support, expert installation and full after-sales care.

Extensive Range of Playground, Outdoor Fitness, Ninja Equipment and more

Safe Play are the exclusive or preferred partner for several leading international manufacturers, alongside our own Australian, locally Victorian made equipment and structures. That means one trusted partner and a wide range of designs and materials to choose from – all in one place.

Inclusive and Accessible Play Space Experts

At the centre of our design approach is a belief that everyone should get the chance to play, regardless of age or ability. We plan with empathy and insight, crafting inclusive and accessible spaces that offer something to every member of the community.

Creating Quality, Engaging Playgrounds Since 1993

We’re proud of our longevity in this industry, but it’s the relationships we build that really set us apart: understanding what a community needs, delivering it properly and on time without surprises, and being there for the long run.

It’s why so much of our work comes from schools, councils and communities we’ve already worked with.

We’re members of AILA (the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects) and Parks & Leisure Australia, and every project we deliver meets Australian Standards for playground safety (AS 4685) and surfacing (AS/NZS 4422).

The Safe Play Story

Back in 1993, the business first opened its doors as Safe Play Systems. Over the following decades, we became a preferred supplier for government contracts and school networks across Victoria, delivering safe, engaging and long-lasting play spaces on thousands of successful projects. Playground companies come and go. We’ve stood the test of time.

In 2018, Kent and Michelle Applegate took over the business, rebranding it as Safe Play Australia and carrying that legacy forward. Their focus on relationships, quality materials and creative designs has shaped how the company has grown since, backed up by the family values and customer-first approach it was built on.

What sets us apart?

Community Driven

It’s more than just equipment. Play and fitness spaces can help shape the health and connection of communities. We’re focussed on social infrastructure that enriches public life and gives people a reason to gather, move, and belong.

We practice what we believe by supporting local community clubs, sports and initiatives.

Inclusive by Default

Everyone gets to play – because a great play or fitness space should offer something to every member of the community, regardless of age, ability, or stage of life. We apply universal design principles from the outset, ensuring DDA awareness, multi-generational engagement, and accessibility are built in and not a bolted-on afterthought.

Committed to Partnerships

Australian conditions are unforgiving. So are the standards we hold ourselves to. Safe Play is with you from first concept to full lifecycle, delivering certified, Australian Standards-compliant products. We’re invested in providing end-to-end support that protects your project, your client, and your reputation well beyond installation day.
