St Luke’s Catholic Primary Play Space

Safe Play Australia delivered a bright, high-energy adventure playground for St Luke’s Catholic Primary School in Wantirna, Melbourne’s east. The design brings together ninja steps, a flying fox, climbing wall, mega cube and net, fire pole, monkey bars, and rope bridge: a vibrant, multi-challenge play space shaped directly by student feedback.

The Brief

St Luke’s had a clear picture of the play space they wanted: high-energy, challenge-based, and fun enough that kids would keep coming back to it, session after session. Rather than lock in a single concept from the outset, the school tested the design with its most important stakeholders – the students – and used their honest reactions to sharpen the final layout before anything was built.

Design Response

We built the final concept around direct student feedback, refining the equipment mix until it matched what the kids actually wanted. The clearest signal was universal: a flying fox beats roman rings, every time – so that’s what we specified. We added ninja steps to keep the energy moving through the sequence, and kept the mega cube as the anchor feature. A climbing wall, fire pole, monkey bars, and rope bridge round out the circuit, all finished in a bright, vibrant colour scheme that matches the energy of the play itself.

Outcome

Because the final layout was shaped by direct student input, St Luke’s had a play space the kids had effectively already approved before it was built. The finished circuit moves from the ninja steps through the climbing wall, mega cube, fire pole, monkey bars, flying fox, and rope bridge — a fast-paced sequence built to be noticed, and used, every day.
