Roxburgh Rise Primary School – Senior Playground
Project Overview
Safe Play was engaged by Roxburgh Rise Primary School to design and deliver a bold, high-energy senior play space that supports confident movement, challenge and skill development for older students. The school wanted a space that went beyond traditional playground elements – one that would appeal to a wide range of abilities and encourage active play in new ways. The project was completed in tandem with the Roxburgh Rise Junior Playground.
Design Response
Our in-house design team developed a dynamic senior playscape centred around play features that offer both physical challenge and imaginative engagement. A key focal point of the design is the large Ninja Wall, providing opportunities for strength, coordination and risk-taking in a safe environment. Complementing this are climbing nets, rock elements and appropriately scaled features that promote active exploration.
A seriously large slide and elevated play elements bring an exciting sense of height and adventure, while careful attention to fall zones and play flow ensures safety and confidence for users. Colour and material choices were considered to create visual cohesion with the wider school environment, using a green-anchored colour palette with bright blue “impact targets” at the base of slides and fire poles to guide landings with playful clarity.
Outcome
The senior playground delivers a stimulating, memorable play experience that students are eager to return to day after day. It seamlessly balances challenge, safety and fun – supporting physical development, peer interaction and confidence-building through play. Already a favourite among students, this space enhances Roxburgh Rise Primary School’s outdoor amenities and reinforces the value of thoughtful, tailored design.
